Thanks to new funding from Trussell Trust, we have three exciting opportunities for people with recent advice experience and great interpersonal skills to provide outreach advice in Colindale and Muswell Hill Foodbanks. This would be the perfect role for an adviser looking for their next step and the opportunity to work more independently and build relationships with a new partner.
Specifically, we have two part-time opportunities for a 0.5 FTE Foodbank Project Adviser at Colindale Foodbank and one part-time opportunity for a 0.8 FTE Foodbank Project Adviser at Muswell Hill Foodbank.
About us
Citizens Advice Barnet is a local charity giving free and confidential advice to everyone who lives, works, or studies in Barnet. We are an independently registered charity, a member of the Citizens Advice network, and a London Legal Support Trust Centre of Excellence. We offer generalist advice on debt, work, benefits, immigration, housing and more and specialist casework on benefits, debt, employment and immigration. Last year we helped over 13,500 people with over 52,500 problems and achieved financial outcomes for clients totalling over £7.8 million.

Normal place of work: | Colindale Foodbank, NW9 / Muswell Hill Fooodbank, N10 and Citizens Advice Barnet’s Hendon office, NW4 |
Contract length: | Permanent – three part time positions |
Hours: | Two 18 hours per week / one 28.8 hours per week |
Salary: Benefits: | £16,472.93 per annum/ £26,356.68 per annum (£32,945.86 FTE)

Job Description
- Provide a full range of initial assessment and advice to Colindale Foodbank visitors, especially in person at Colindale or Muswell Hill Foodbank
- Record accurate data and detailed case records on our case management system, including issues helped with, client profile information and outcomes
- Build relationships with Colindale or Muswell Hill Foodbank volunteers and management and work closely with them to best support their visitors
- Keep up to date with legislation, case law, policies and procedures relating to debt and social welfare advice and undertake appropriate training
- Attend relevant internal and external meetings as agreed with the line manager
- Assist in initiatives to improve Citizens Advice Barnet services
- The post holder must have due regard in the planning and execution of their duties at all times to the Citizens Advice Equal Opportunities Policy. They will also be expected to maintain positive relations with external agencies and confidentiality in relation to all aspects of the business
- Demonstrate an understanding of Citizens Advice Barnet Health and Safety and Safeguarding Policies
- The post will involve travel to the foodbanks and possible other locations within the London Borough of Barnet
- Promote the aims, principles, policies, interests and wellbeing of Citizens Advice Barnet and to protect the integrity and reputation and the confidentiality of the service

Person specification
- Relevant knowledge and recent experience of generalist advice work especially in areas of benefits, debt, housing, employment, consumer, immigration, and family advice issues
- Ability to work under pressure, maintain quality standards and communicate effectively and sensitively with clients and people from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to manage a caseload and prioritise work in the face of competing demands and to meet targets set by the line manager and funders
- Ability to work independently with remote supervision and as part of a team
- An excellent working knowledge of IT, with the ability to write accurate case records, draft letters, reports and statements and record stats electronically
- Experience of working at Citizens Advice or similar organisations that work to Advice Quality Standards (AQS)
