Communications and Marketing Co-ordinator

Role Profile

We are seeking a Communications and Marketing Coordinator to play a key role in supporting Citizens Advice Barnet to help more people to find a way forward from very difficult situations through free and confidential advice.

You will implement a creative and impactful programme of communication activities to key audiences, including our clients, donors, partners, community groups, the media, and our team of staff and volunteers. You’ll relish inspiring people to take action to support our work through well-crafted web, social media, e-newsletter and marketing content.

Your copywriting and storytelling skills will raise our profile and income generation as a local, independent charity. We have an established history of helping those most in need in our community and support around 10,000 people a year experiencing complex problems with debt, work, benefits, housing and more. You will help us raise awareness of our campaigning work to tackle poverty, challenge discrimination, and get access to justice for all.

About us

Citizens Advice Barnet is a local charity giving free and confidential advice to everyone who lives, works, or studies in Barnet. We are an independently registered charity, a member of the Citizens Advice network, and a London Legal Support Trust Centre of Excellence. We offer generalist advice on debt, work, benefits, immigration, housing and more and specialist casework on benefits, debt, work and immigration. Key role purpose:
  • Deliver our Communications Strategy over digital and traditional channels to reach all our key audiences (internal and external)
  • Create engaging written content, graphics and videos
  • Evaluate the performance of our communications and marketing and take action to continuously improve
Normal place of work:Barnet – onsite/hybrid
Contract length:Permanent –  Part time (over 3 or 4 days a week) 
Hours:Up to 21.6 hours per week

Job Description

  • Deliver our communications strategy to ensure a consistent conversation with all our key audiences through digital and traditional communication and marketing channels.
  • Work with the wider Citizens Advice Barnet team to identify opportunities to raise the profile of our work, including content for communications such as detail on the impact of our services and our policy and campaigns work.
  • Regularly evaluate the performance of our communications through the use of analytics and take action as a result to continually improve how we meet our audiences’ needs.
  • Manage a content planner for the year which forms the basis of all external and internal communications across all of the charity’s channels, providing timely opportunities to engage with audiences.
  • Create engaging written content, graphics and videos that increase reach and engagement with our social media, website and e-newsletter.
  • Monitor and develop our social media channels.
  • Plan, copywrite and distribute e-newsletters to grow our supporter base.
  • Manage and oversee editing of our website, ensuring a clear user journey for clients to receive information quickly and a good supporter experience for donors.
  • Develop content for regular internal communications that engages our team of staff and volunteers and demonstrates our team’s values.
  • Collate inspiring stories of our work with clients and of our volunteers and supporters that demonstrate the impact of our work for use across our communication channels.
  • Promote our services to our community through accessible and inclusive communications, which will involve maintaining printed marketing materials and ordering from suppliers.
  • Ensure a consistent voice and design of communications and adherence to branding guidelines.
  • Support the Head of Business Development to develop communications for individual giving and community fundraising.
  • Embed our organisational values throughout our communications. 
  • Occasional management of specific media relations, including preparing press releases and producing articles for local magazines and relevant publications.
  • Representing Citizens Advice Barnet at external events.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of  CAB Health & Safety and Safeguarding Policies.
  • Ensure that work undertaken reflects and supports the Citizens Advice service’s equality and diversity strategy.

Person specification

  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to grow strong relationships with a wide range of people and to act as an external ambassador for Citizens Advice Barnet
  • Flexible approach, willingness and ability to work responsively to organisational and team needs
  • Excellent copywriting and storytelling skills
  • Attention to detail and proofreading skills
  • Knowledge of accessible and inclusive communications
  • High degree of organisation, and the ability to plan your own work to meet deadlines under pressure
  • Ability to research, analyse, and report on performance, and to interpret data and statistics to develop stories and content
  • Significant experience with IT, including word processing, email, social media; Canva or equivalent and email marketing software experience desirable
