Citizens Advice Barnet is thrilled to announce the launch of CAB Court Support, a new initiative providing in-person services at Barnet Civil and Family Court
This service aims to fill the gap left by the closure of some of the London satellite centres of the Support Through Court charity, one of which was in Barnet.
As part of this transition, we are pleased to welcome 18 dedicated volunteers from the original Support Through Court service, who are currently undergoing onboarding with Citizens Advice Barnet. These volunteers bring a wealth of experience and commitment to helping individuals navigate the court system without legal representation.
CAB Court Support is designed to assist individuals facing legal challenges such as child custody, divorce, eviction, and money claims. Our services include:
- Guiding clients on their next steps
- Helping clients look for legal advice
- Explaining complex procedures
- Completing court forms
- Helping clients present their statements clearly
The service commenced on Monday 5th August, operating from 10am to 2pm for the first three Mondays in August. As of September, the service will expand its availability to both Mondays and Tuesdays, maintaining the same hours of 10am to 2pm.
Daniel Bamford, Citizens Advice Barnet Chief Officer, said:
We are delighted to have been able to rescue this important and highly valued service for litigants in person at Barnet Court.
Navigating the justice system is complicated at the best of times, but with our team of expert volunteers we can make a daunting experience easier for court users.
HHJ Rachel Karp, Circuit Judge, added:
I am delighted that litigants will have some support in navigating the complexities of court procedures. I offer my enormous gratitude to the volunteers and to Citizens Advice Barnet.
