Volunteer Interview: Lester

Hey Lester, what is your role at Citizens Advice Barnet?

Mostly I assist people applying for the Personal Independence Payment. I’m helping people with paperwork who can’t do it themselves.

These forms go into a lot of detail and many of our clients find them overwhelming. This can be because they do not speak English well enough or they have physical or mental health issues. A lot of the time it’s putting into words the clients’ situation.

Why do you volunteer at Citizens Advice Barnet?

Like most people at the CAB I want to help those who need help. Citizens Advice is something I believe in very strongly–it serves a very important function. I don’t need that help currently; but if I did, I’m glad to know that the service exists

Is there anything you’ve done while volunteering with us that you’re particularly proud of?

When a client says, “Thank you very much” and you see that they appreciate your help, I always get a lot of job satisfaction out of that.

What would you say to someone thinking of volunteering with us?

Volunteering at Citizens Advice Barnet is one of the most worthwhile things you can do.
