Volunteer Interview: Lester

- What is your role at Citizens Advice Barnet?
Mostly I assist people applying for the Personal Independence Payment. I’m helping people with paperwork who can’t do it themselves. These forms go into a lot of detail and many of our clients find them overwhelming. This can be because they do not speak English well enough or they have physical or mental health issues. A lot of the time it’s putting into words the clients’ situation.
- Why do you volunteer at Citizens Advice Barnet?
Like most people at the CAB I want to help those who need help. Citizens Advice is something I believe in very strongly–it serves a very important function. I don’t need that help currently; but if I did, I’m glad to know that the service exists.
- Is there anything you’ve done while volunteering with us that you’re particularly proud of?
When a client says, “Thank you very much” and you see that they appreciate your help, I always get a lot of job satisfaction out of that.
- What would you say to someone thinking of volunteering at CAB?
Volunteering at Citizens Advice Barnet is one of the most worthwhile things you can do.
